How the Meeting Owl Helps Sterling Lawyers Virtually Connect to Courtrooms

It’s important to Sterling Lawyers that all communications allow for clients to be clearly understood. Often, clients, attorneys, and other staff members can’t all be physically together for every conversation. Sterling Lawyers needed a video conferencing solution that would enable them to provide exceptional service for their clients when distance prevented in-person meetings.

Sterling Lawyers has four hubs throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. Their offices regularly needed to connect for all-company meetings, and gathering in person wasn’t always an easy option.

Systems Administrator Keith Norton oversees budgeting, network management and security, and chooses the technological devices that Sterling Lawyers uses in their offices. Keith is also responsible for making sure all meeting rooms are equipped with video conferencing technology.

Keith was frustrated by the amount of devices and cables that cluttered conference rooms. Their bandwidth was maxed out by all the devices that had to log on for every call, and each room had a different and complicated setup process. In January 2019, he began looking for an all-in-one device that could provide a streamlined solution.

Keith found the Meeting Owl and realized that it fit the bill. “It requires very little setup, has minimal cables, and is a true all-in-one speaker, microphone, and camera.” After seeing how well it performed for larger meetings, Keith ordered several more for the other offices.

Sterling Lawyers now uses their Meeting Owls for company-wide meetings, smaller staff meetings, and recently, courtroom proceedings.

“We really value transparency and honest communication at Sterling Lawyers. The Meeting Owl makes sure nothing is left out of conversations — everything and everyone is seen and heard.”

When COVID-19 hit in March of 2020 and courtrooms prohibited in-person proceedings, the Meeting Owl enabled a virtual solution. When a client and their attorney are in the same physical location, they can use the Meeting Owl to video conference with the courtroom. Both the client and attorney are able to be fully seen and heard in court because of the Meeting Owl's 360° video and audio pickup.

When asked about the implementation process, Keith says: “I didn’t have any worries about rolling it out, and everyone has been able to use it without a hitch.”

Keith says what he likes best about the Meeting Owl is the autofocus. “We haven’t had any issue with the video freezing. The camera picks up on where to focus very quickly, even when there are 15 people in the room.” Keith also appreciates the easy mobility of the Meeting Owl and says that it often moves around between meeting rooms depending on where it’s needed.

Keith is happy that meetings and courtrooms are now enabled for virtual participation, and from an IT perspective, he’s happy the technological solution was so simple.
